BSc (Hons) in Real Estate

(Normally 3-year Full-time Programme)

Programme Aim

The aim of this course is to train students to become real estate professionals who are capable of taking a critical and analytic approach to problem-solving. This ability will be developed with the acquisition of various techniques and skills which enables students to make decisions leading to the most efficient use of land and buildings.

Future Career

Graduates are expected to handle issues relating to the development of land, the valuation of real property, property management and property investment for a wide variety of purposes. They may work in the public sector (Rating and Valuation Department, Lands Department and Housing Department) or the private sector of the real estate industry.

Programme Content

The course is a 3-year full time programme with some elements taught in common with the Bachelor of Science (Hons) degrees in Construction Economics and Management, and Building Surveying.

Professional Recognition

The course is fully accredited to the academic standards of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) in the United Kingdom, and the degree is also accepted by the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (HKIS) as its approved academic qualification leading to corporate memebership.

Upon gaining the two years' approved experience and passing the requisite Assessment of Professional Competence, graduates will be qualified as Chartered General Practice Surveyors (MRICS) or professional General Proactice Surveyors (MHKIS).

It should be noted though, that recent changes in RICS regqulations now permit graduates to pursue a career in any area of surveying of their choice.
