| BSc (Hons) in Construction Economics and Management (Normally 3-year Full-time Programme) Programme Aim We aim to produce preferred graduates who will become technically and academically qualified in the areas of Construction Economics and Construction Management. They will be are able to enter, serve and eventually lead the quantity surveying profession. Future Career Construction has always been a main pillar of Hong Kong’s economy. A large proportion of government expenditure and private investment goes into construction. The prime objective of a typical construction activity is to maximize value and quality within the constraints of time and cost. Professional quantity surveyors have the unique knowledge and skills to achieve this objective and there are, therefore, exciting prospects for graduates of this course. Programme Content The course is credit-based. A typical study programme takes 3 years full-time. Each academic year of the course extends over two semesters from late September to July. Some elements are taught in common with the BSc (Hons) degrees in Building Surveying, Real Estate and Building Engineering & Management. Normal

Elective Subjects Students are required to choose 2 elective subjects (3 credits each) from a list offered by the Department from time to time, and to choose 2 General Education subjects from a list offered by the University. Professional Recognition The degree is accepted by the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (HKIS) as an approved qualification leading to corporate membership. Graduates may gain full professional status after an appropriate period of approved practical experience and training, and passing the Assessment of Professional Competence (APC). Successful candidates in the APC will be qualified as Corporate Member of the Institute (MHKIS). The HKIS and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, UK offer reciprocal recognition of their professional membership. Graduates may also seek partial exemption from the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), UK, if they wish to pursue a career in contracting
