Introduction:
The construction industry in Hong Kong is facing the challenge of manpower shortage and ageing workforce. In order to relieve pressure of labour shortage, attract new blood and enhance workers’ quality of life, a ‘No-Saturday-Site-Work’ arrangement is proposed. The Construction Industry Council (CIC) has commissioned a consultancy team led by Prof. Y.H. Chiang and Prof. Francis K.W. Wong of the Department of Building and Real Estate of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University to study the feasibility and implementation strategy for this ‘No-Saturday-Site-Work’ initiative. We have conducted several rounds of in-depth interviews, focus group meetings and questionnaire surveys with various stakeholders including the government, statutory bodies, property developers, professional institutions, trade associations, contractors, workers and their unions, and secondary school students. We have come to the last stage: a consultation forum, which is to be conducted to validate the findings and to obtain further feedbacks from the industry. Please come and share your views with us.
