The following message is from Ricky.
During the 2-month placement in Lei Tung Estate Management Office, I had learnt bundle of knowledge which cannot be learned in the classroom, such as the methods of deciding the sources of the wall seepage, the procedures of handling the interior repair orders, the rules of allocating the posters and banners, the method of calculating the usage of shopping centre, communication and problem solving skills, etc. Besides, I had also got the brief idea about the operation of a property management firm, the Owners' Corporations and some mechanism and principles of the housing policies such as External Transfer Exercise, Living Space Improvement Transfer Scheme and Territory-wide Overcrowding Relief Transfer Exercise, etc. This knowledge are helpful to my future career.

Programme: BSc(Hons) in Surveying

Student Name: Tam Wai Yin, Mercury

I have just completed the first year study in the Surveying class and gained fruitful experience in the Levett & Bailey Quantity Surveyors Ltd. During the 9-week training, I assisted quantity surveyors to carry out their duties such as taking measurements from architectural drawings, reading contracts documents, preparing final accounts and so on. It is exciting to take part in real-life big projects and learn from professionals the proper attitudes to work in teams and handle contingencies. I am delighted to have such a perfect beginning for my exploration of the surveying field, thanks to the Deparment’s WIE Scheme.

Programme: BSc(Hons) in Building Engineering and Management

Student Name: Chan Chi Shing
In the summer training, as a DPM, I have learnt a lot of new things, knowledge and some useful management skills. It broadens my horizons. After the summer training, I developed more interest in building work. It is really a golden chance to study during the process.

Student Name: Wan Ka Hin
In this summer training, I play the role of a store keeper. My duty is to keep records for the tools and the materials, and assist the quantity surveyor. This duty helps me to learn more about the tools and materials, and how to manage a place. I also learn how to communicate with others. Moreover, it trains my memory a lot! Although it seems that I have many jobs to do, but I think I enjoy them very much as they make my summer holiday meaningful.
